From Jan 21-Jan 25, SIC’s Synergy Team held their second annual event at the Harvard Innovation Lab. Synergy, a subsidiary initiative of the Social Innovation Collaborative, acts as a student-run incubator for social enterprise related startups. This year’s Synergy team was led by Sheba Matthew ’13, Sandy Liang ’15, Anh Ha Ton ’15, Manik Bhatia ’16, and Bernadette Lim ’16. Participants’ startups included: a website that seeks to facilitate the financial aid process in college admissions, a technology that supplies cheap renewable batteries, an online network allow for anonymous gift giving, and a social media site that allows users play computer games to donate food. Guest speakers and mentors came from Harvard College, HBS, the Innovation Lab, as well as the greater Boston area in a variety of fields from non-profit to venture capital. Affiliates included Krishna Gupta of Romulus Capital, Peter Boyce of Rough Draft Ventures, and acclaimed author Nina Vasan, author of “Do Good Well.”
